Match clusters of crystals and create exciting combos in this captivating collapse-style game. The game has an enchanting world with interesting characters and a compelling storyline. The Humans can claim spaces on the map, scoring victory points as they go (but it’s a very slow and grindy strategy). The Pilgrims play a weird crystal management game with their own special point-scoring ability.
Gameplay
Match clusters of crystals, create exciting combos and reach new heights of fun in this captivating collapse-style game. Transport yourself to an enchanted forest filled with colorful crystals in this summer-themed nights version of the popular puzzler. Clear away incandescent obstacles and make strategic matches to clear the board in as few moves as possible. Complete missions and progress through levels as you earn rewards such as powerful fireballs that clear random obstacles or additional moves for your next turn.
Colored cubes fall from the top of your screen in twos, and you rotate and wrap them around edges to create groups. They then disappear when the groups are cleared or collide with each other. While this is the basic premise, there are other elements that add to the gameplay, such as blocks that let you briefly float or act as platforms to jump over gaps.
Unlike other roguelikes, you can play this as much or as little as you want, although the higher difficulty levels may have you trying again and again. The unblocked game is simple, but it does require a fair bit of strategy to beat each world. There are also some issues with the controls, especially when navigating a moving platform, but if you can get past that, this is a very entertaining roguelike.
Graphics
The graphics in Crystal Collapse aren’t the most dazzling you’ll see, but they do the job and the game looks quite nice. The blocks are colorful and the different characters have distinct styles. The backgrounds and environments are nice as well.
The map tiles look like they are a mix of lithograph and digitally rendered. They are very nice to look at though and I liked the colors a lot.
Each race has their own unique abilities. The Pilgrims can place tiles anywhere on the map, and they also gain access to a special card that lets them draw cards and play them in order to get more points.
The Cave player acts as the referee. He can win if he removes five of the nine cave tiles, which takes quite some time, so he can hold back the other players and prevent them from building too quickly towards victory. He also draws the top three Events and chooses one to play, placing the other two at the bottom of the deck. He also places Treasure tiles on dark tiles that don’t already have a Treasure tile.
Soundtrack
The soundtrack in Crystal Collapse is a loyal, memorable companion that supports, even enriches your experience. It’s the kind of music that, even after you put the game down, lingers in your head and keeps you humming.
The apocalypse is inevitable – 12 of the 13 Crystal skulls have been united, and only the power of the last skull can resurrect humanity from the brink of destruction. To do that, however, the remaining skull must be protected – and so begins a race around the globe, as various groups of people attempt to stake their claim on the final fragments of the skull.
After the funeral of his brother, John Mitchell (Hugh Fraser) is drowning his sorrows in a bar when he’s approached by Sienna Mallory (Wendy Glenn) and Mitchler, who want to talk with him about his new book regarding the crystal skulls. As they talk, a hooded figure appears and reveals himself to be John’s father.
Inspired by Jacques Zeimet’s Cockroach Poker and other passing/bluffing games, Crystal Collapse is a family friendly strategy game for 3-8 players that rewards careful planning and the ability to make good use of your resources. Players will compete to build a strong army by placing character tiles on the board, earning success tokens for their accuracy and for the bluffs they successfully pull off against other players. The player who scores the most points for their success tokens will be declared the winner.
Theme
The game is set in a distant planet containing a precious mineral called xenostyl, which the four factions compete for. Each faction has its own special perks that allow them to gain the most points. Basically, each player has to collect their own unique set of crystals, which they then use to unlock new abilities and powers that will enable them to harvest xenostyl more efficiently.
The gameplay is fast and incredibly fun to play. There are tons of cool powerups to unlock and new achievements to earn. However, the system used to calculate Victory Points is a bit convoluted and can lead to players doing unnecessary math that slows down the pace of the game.
Overall, Crystal Collapse is a great game for anyone looking to get their match-3 on. It’s easy to pick up and play, but also challenging enough for experienced gamers. It has a nice art style and catchy soundtrack that make it a good choice for casual gamers. This version also has a few quality of life improvements that make it an even more enjoyable experience.
