A Guide to Services Offered by India’s Best Embryologist

Embryologists play a key role in an IVF clinic. They are the scientific staff who help create babies, literally creating life in their hands. They are sometimes referred to as ‘custodians’ of the patient’s sperm, eggs, or embryos as they nurture this new beginning of life.

However, embryologists do not only work in the laboratory; they are also in regular direct communication with our patients, whether at the first information session, at the egg collection to inform the patients about how their embryos are developing, and then face again – face to face during the transfer of embryos.

Here are some of the tasks that the Best Embryologists in India perform as part of their essential role in an IVF clinic:

Determine the fertility level of individuals

One of the duties of an embryologist is to perform sperm testing which is used to check the quality of man ejaculation and the sperm present in it under the microscope embryologist check the motility along with morphology and count of the sperm. The combined result of all this information is part of the process of moving forward with the types of treatment options for patients.

Collection of eggs

Patients need to meet with the embryologist before the egg is retrieved to discuss the treatment plan the doctor created for them. The doctor will aspirate fluid during the procedure of egg retrieval from the follicles on the ovary. The fluid containing eggs will be given to the embryologist for examination under the microscope so that the X can be identified and collected.

Insemination

Best Embryologists in India are responsible for joining the eggs and sperm on the same day as the egg retrieval to attempt fertilization and start the formation of embryos. This can be done in several different ways, mainly depending on the quality of the sperm. In conventional IVF, a calculated number of prepared sperm are placed in a dish containing the patient’s eggs, and the sperm then swim to the egg and attempt to fertilize it.

Alternatively, if ICSI is used as the insemination mechanism, the embryologist is responsible for selecting the sperm to be microinjected into the egg.

Fertilization control

The embryologist checks these eggs for evidence of fertilization and then calls the patient to tell them the fertilization result.

Monitoring the development of the embryo

Embryologists then transplant these fertilized eggs back into ideal culture conditions in an incubator that is regulated to control the temperature and maintain a pH that mimics that of the womb. These optimal conditions allow the fertilized egg to continue growing and develop into an embryo. The embryos are then checked every other day, and the embryologists renew the culture medium as needed to help maintain optimal embryo growth and development.

Selection of embryos for transfer

The transfer usually occurs on day 5, when embryologists assess all of the patient’s embryos in culture, select the highest-quality embryo, and place it in the transfer catheter at the time of transfer. The catheter, thus filled, is then carefully handed over to the fertility specialist, who selects a place to place the embryo in the uterine cavity safely.

Preservation of embryos, eggs, and sperm

Sperm are frozen in either straws or amperes, using a variety of specialized media that also act to protect and prevent cryo-shock, but are frozen by a different process.

Genetic testing

On request, Best Embryologists in India may perform preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) on embryos before they are implanted to evaluate any chromosomal abnormalities. The most common method of embryo testing takes place on day 5 or 6 of embryo development. It is called an embryo biopsy, where some blastomeres or embryonic cells are carefully removed and tested for genetic profile.

Maintaining optimal library conditions

Embryologists carefully maintain the temperature inside the incubators, the equipment used to monitor those embryos, the humidity and gas levels in those incubators, and the overall air quality in the lab using various technologies.

Sperm and egg management

The embryology team takes care of the frozen embryos, eggs, and sperm in our cryo-storage tanks to ensure that they are kept in a different kind of controlled environment and that they remain viable. Our teams regularly monitor these tanks to ensure that liquid nitrogen levels remain optimal and that frozen stock stays frozen.
