Phase 1 Ice and assemble a three-layer cake onto a cake board using your favorite recipe. Using Liv’s spice Christmas Box recipe, I cut three 6-inch rounds for Cake. I frost it with my classic vanilla buttercream. To ensure straight sides, smooth out as much of the buttercream as you can and refrigerate while you prepare the fondant decorations.Step 2: To prevent stickiness, dust a perfectly clean surface with powdered sugar. Roll out fondant to a very thin 1/8-inch thickness in at least four different colors.Step 3: Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut different-sized rectangles out of the fondant (if necessary, use a ruler for straight cuts). These are the packages; there will be variations in sizes among them. Arrange them in a circle around the base of the cake, touching on the sides, using various colors.Note: Use a food-grade paintbrush to remove any remaining powdered sugar.Step 4: Using a pizza cutter or ribbon cutter, cut thin (1/4-inch) fondant strips to the height of each box, combining the colors wherever you like. Using a tiny bit of extra frosting, attach the strips to the fondant boxes to form ribbons.
