Netgear Orbi Purple Light: Meaning

In the introduction we have mentioned that you will get fixes to get rid of the purple light. This implies this light color is not good for the Orbi. Yes, that’s true. This light color indicates that your Orbi needs your attention. Well, let us tell you that purple or pink color simply means that your router is not connected to the internet. Let us now help you fix the issue so that you can begin using the Orbi’s internet on various devices.

How to Fix Orbi Purple Light Issue?

We have discussed different solutions as there is no particular cause for no internet problem. Apply these fixes one by one and keep checking if the issue is resolved or not. The ring LED on the router should turn off if it is working fine and is connected to internet. Thus wait till it turns off.

1.Bring Router Closer to Modem

The Orbi router gets its signals from the modem. If they are placed far from each other then the router can’t get internet properly and hence you will see purple light flashing on your Orbi.

Bring the router closer to the modem now. Make sure that the router sits within the range of the modem and then see if this turns off the light.

2.Make a LAN Connection

Try making a LAN connection between the Netgear Orbi router and the modem. Wired connections are always reliable. Hence making a LAN connection will help you get rid of the purple light. However, make certain that the cable in use is in good condition and the ports are well working. Also, ensure that the cable is not making a loose connection.

3.Check Power Supply

If the modem is not fully booted up, you will have issues connecting your Orbi router to its network. The same is true for the Orbi router. Perhaps any of these devices are connected to inadequate power supply. Why don’t to check the same? Fix anything that’s faulty like a faulty power cable or damaged power socket. Also, ensure that the power cable is not loose. You can use a UPS to supply a stable power connection to the devices. You should no longer see the purple light on your Orbi. Try accessing Orbi login page to see if the internet is working fine or not.

4.Contact your ISP

Perhaps there are internet outages going on in your area. Get this confirmed from your ISP by getting in touch with him. Let the issue get resolved and then see if the Orbi still shows you purple color.

5.Reboot Orbi

Minor technical glitches can also be responsible for this light color and no internet issue on the Orbi. Rebooting is helpful in such a scenario. Power off the Netgear Orbi for some time and remove the power cable too. Wait for some time and then power on the Orbi by plugging it in.

6.Reset the Orbi

Use the reset process only when nothing else helped you to get rid of the purple light on the Orbi router. This is because resetting erases the customized settings on the router thereby restoring the factory settings. Press the Reset button for 10 seconds on the router to perform the factory reset. This will also reset Orbi admin password and WiFi password.  Use the default values to log in to Orbi interface and set it up once again.

The Final Note

After you’ve given your Orbi a fresh start, you will no longer see the purple light on its ring LED. The Orbi should be working normally and you should be able to connect to its network without any trouble. We suggest you get its firmware updated to the latest version to avoid getting stuck into similar issue and also to enhance the overall performance of the Orbi system.
